The great thing about strength is everyone can improve it. The mistake most people make is they give up before they start seeing improvement. Here are 5 simple guidelines that if you follow will allow you to get stronger.
1. Lift Heavy: 2-3 times a week mainly focusing on the squat, deadlift, and bench press
2. Consistency: Strength takes years to build. Instead of focusing on goals that revolve around how much weight you can lift focus on goals that revolve around time and how often you do something. Ex I want to lift heavy twice a week for 3 months.
3. Move Well: Focus on doing movements correctly before increasing weight. This will ensure you don't get hurt and will allow you to train for a very long time.
4. Eat!: Eat enough food to support the type of training you are doing. If your goal is to increase muscle mass then you will need to eat in a surplus. If you are in a deficit of calories you will not gain strength.
5. Rest: Stay out of the gym. More is not always better. By allowing yourself adequate time to recover you will allow your tissues to rebuild so that you can lift heavy again.
There is no secret to getting strong. If you stick to these 5 simple guidelines you will improve your strength.
